We add our voice to the outpouring of regret at the extensive fire damage sustained by the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris overnight.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Speaking on @abcnews24 , National President Clare Cousins said the 850-year old structure was an example of architectural endeavour at its finest. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ‘Notre-Dame de Paris is not only a sacred place of worship, it is a place loved by generations upon generations of people all around the world. The overwhelming response to this terrible event reinforces the extraordinary power truly greatarchitecture has to bring people together, to provide a place where countless special memories are made, where wonder and magic abound.’ – Clare Cousins

Happy International Women’s Day! The architectural profession may have made progress in shining a light on the importance and value of a diverse and equitable workforce in recent years but there is still much more that we must do to achieve a better balance. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ While it’s encouraging to see registration of women architects increasing from 34 per cent in 2011 to 41 per cent in 2016 according to the Parlour Census Report, we all need to be committed to the provision of equal opportunities, rights and benefits to all men and women engaged within the architectural profession, and to eliminate gender-based impacts on the participation and progression of women within the profession. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Discover just some of the experiences, accomplishments and contributions of leading females within the architectural profession with our Women in Architecture series (link in bio) #IWD2019 #Balanceforbetter
