I'm ready to start complaining about winter again. • Photography stuff: I switched from my Nikon 14-24 2.8 a couple years ago in favor of the @tamronusa 15-30 2.8 G2 simply because the sun star is amazing. There is no compromise in sharpness or boca either and the range is just marginally more useful to my photography. While I do occasionally miss the slightly wider angle of the Nikon, I really love the Tamron.

"Water on Mars" After years of high pressure, a southern shift in the jet stream created some wonderfully wintery conditions throughout Southern Utah. •Shameless promotion: The Outsiders Landscape Photography Conference is just 1 ticket sale away from a big milestone and there are at the time of this post, only 51 tickets left! Come meet and learn from a bunch of world renowned photographers including Art Wolfe, Alex Noriega, Suzanne Mathia. Yes, you'll have to listen to me too but that's a good sacrifice to hear all of the other amazing speakers. "Populus Fremontii" Seeing recognizable objects or patterns in otherwise random or unrelated objects or patterns is called pareidolia. It’s a form of apophenia, which is a more general term for the human tendency to seek patterns in random information. I couldn't help but see the triangular, ovate shapes of the Populus Fremontii or Cottonwood Trees that grow not far from here.

To everyone that has taken a second out of their day to even look at my images, thank you. With unlimited choices of entertainment available to us in the palm of our hands, I am grateful that my images are able to get anyone to even look at them. Thanks everyone.

Tradition is just peer pressure from dead people. I've never been a fan of doing anything "because that's the way it's always been done." Whenever I hear that phrase my mind immediately goes into inquisitive, almost defensive mode to determine if there is a better way or if there is any valid reason at all to continue doing whatever it is at all. With the impact that humans are having on the environment I think we all need to be asking ourselves what we can do different to secure a better future for our only home. Let me know your ideas for breaking tradition in search of a better way.

Those who deny freedom to others, deserve it not for themselves -Abraham Lincoln • Before low level LED was the standard for light painting I used various other flashlights and headlamps. It was difficult or impossible to get a consistent and replicable exposure from frame to frame but it was a lot of fun to play around. In general I had better luck if I could shine onto something other than my subject and use the reflected light to get a more diffused look. With @chaddutson 2014

"Ephemeral" A month later I am still so excited I was able to experience this desert bloom. These purple flowers lasted but a couple days even with the cooler temperatures this spring. It was surreal to see my favorite and familiar place saturated with veins of color sprouting from the cracked earth.
