It’s hard to understand where to begin. — You’ve decided that you want to give yoga a go but don’t know where to start, where to go or that there are even different styles, let alone the difference between them. — Here are 10 things I’ve learnt as I started my own journey. — 1️⃣ - KNOW YOUR WHY - what’s you reason for stepping on the mat? With this in mind, you can keep motivated and find which style suits that motivation — 2️⃣ - BE COMFORTABLE BEING UNCOMFORTABLE - you are going to find it hard to begin with but that’s ok. Accept it as your starting point and see the improvements. — 3️⃣ - SET GOALS - set some goals for movements, whether they’re arm balances or particular poses. — 4️⃣ - EACH POSE IS A DIRECTION - the end pose you see the teacher doing isn’t the maximum benefit. Go for sensation and think of the pose being demonstrated as a direction of travel. You’ll feel the benefit at a different point on that road than others. — 5️⃣ - FIND THE RIGHT TEACHER - this maybe in person or online but find a teacher you click with. — 6️⃣ - DONT PUSH THE EDGE TOO FAR - don’t push too far as the easiest way to an injury is to overstretch. — 7️⃣ - LEARN ABOUT YOUR OWN BODY - the first few weeks, you’re going to learn what your body is strong at and what it’s weaknesses are. Treat the first few weeks as a crash course to learn what to focus on. — 8️⃣ - DONT COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHERS - everyone is different and every BODY is different, which brings different challenges to everyone. Accept where you are and just focus on your own practise. — 9️⃣ - MIX IT UP - try different styles to see what you enjoy the most and see a broad range of benefits. — 1️⃣0️⃣ - HAVE FUN! - you’re gonna faceplant in your first crow poses and lose balance as you attempt tree pose. Just laugh it off and have some fun!

Back in April, after I had chosen the #ytt I was going to do in #bali I saw this post on @enneagramandcoffee (swipe left for post) and it was absolutely WILD to me that the name of the studio I chose was @powerofnowoasis and the name of the book my personality type was suggested to read the month I happened to have paid off the ytt was #powerofnow When I arrived home I told @alihodgess and @stirlingwolfe that I wanted to read this book and it turns out Stirling already had it. I began reading it and it’s logic is so similar to that of the yoga sutras interpretation I had been required to read (and absolutely loved) for the training... "But I do not want its widespread popularity to eclipse the depth of what it has to give to the practitioner." He shares his understanding of what constitutes the full yogic journey in Light on Life. Rather than present the yoga postures as he did in Light on Yoga, Guruji reveals in Light on Life the "heart of yoga" that he personally discovered through more than 70 years of disciplined, daily practice. He explores the yogic goal of integrating the different aspects of our existence (physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual), the role that yoga postures and breathing techniques play in our search for wholeness, the external and internal obstacles that keep us from progressing along the path, and the precise ways that yoga can transform our lives and help us live in harmony with the world around us. In the following excerpt from Light on Yoga, Guruji explains why asana practice is important on the yogic journey, but is not the end goal. The purpose or goal of asana is to align and harmonize the physical body and all the layers, or sheaths, of the subtle emotional, mental, and spiritual body. This is integration. But how does one align these layers and experience integration? How does one find such profound transformation in what from the outside may look simply like stretching or twisting the body into unusual positions? It begins with awareness. 💪Poslouchej své tělo, kapitola 2: Zvedat těžké věci ze země je sranda💪. Poslední dobou jsem na IG přestala sledovat holky od tyče a nějak se mi tam začali objevovat lidi co zvedají ze země těžké věci ( @unicorn_gainz třeba, tu holku fakt žeru🤘) a mě z toho začaly svrbět ruce. Tak se kouknu kolem sebe a hele @la.boun zvedá váhy jako 🐷, tak šup se mu vecpat do programu. Lidi to je vám taková paráda!!! Well, today was supposed to be my due date but apparently someone had changed it at the OBGYN’s office at the beginning of the pregnancy. So the “real” due date is now the 24th. 🙄 Not that it matters so much because baby girl will be here when she is ready but it is still disturbing in a way. • On that note I am preparing a list of “real” pregnancy 🤰🏻must haves that I will share in my stories. Over the course of my three pregnancies I have found that you don’t need much honestly. They make you think you need all these things that aren’t truly needed. I have been working on this variation of king cobra for the past 2 months. The main photo was taken on 5 July & I was fully assisted into the pose. When I’m left on my own device, the shape still looks quite different from the main photo (swipe) 😆 Some days my toes can touch my head during self practice. It depends a lot on my chest & shoulders openness as well as my back’s fatigue level. This pose is impossible when my back is too tired or when I didn’t stretch my shoulders & chest enough. Therefore, preparation for this pose is still kinda tricky... I have to be warmed up enough for deep backbend like kapotasana without exhausting my back 🤔😅 It takes almost a good minute for me to get into this pose on my own & I’m still struggling to move my hands down to my knees (see video). Mmm... no idea why I blinked so much in the video, as if blinking helps 🙈🙈🤣🤣 ▫️ P/S: I used KT tape on my right wrist because my tight pecs, shoulder & forearm were pulling my wrist out of alignment 😳 Weird things seem to happen to me all the time 😅 I was experiencing pain in my right wrist in postures like upward dog & plank but arm balances with chaturanga arms were painless. My wrist got better during the yoga retreat as we did a lot of chest & shoulders opening for backbends 🙏🏻💖 ▫️ 📷: @ni_che_ni 😘
