I have always loved the outdoors whether it be hiking, snowboarding or skateboarding. It’s kinda in my blood because I am originally from Grand Junction, Colorado. I found my way to the east coast about 12 years ago. I currently live in Philadelphia. In September of 2017, my now wife, said if I didn’t make a choice to stop drinking she was leaving. I realized my drinking was getting out of control and quit cold turkey, with the help of my wife, my friends and cannabis.
While I was getting sober I decided that I was going to finally do something I always wanted to, hike the AT. So from the end of 2017 I started to save and get all my gear together. I watched a lot of the you tube hikers and followed a lot of them on their 2018 hike. My wife called it “Trail Talk”
Living in an urban setting like Philadelphia can make it hard to prep for a trek like this. However, I made it work and I would set my gear up in the small backyard.
I would test it all out in all weather conditions. I would also pack my pack with and without food and water and walk around the city for miles. My wife would drop me off on sections of the AT on my off days so I could really test my gear out.
Now here I am over 100 miles in 10 days and loving every minute of it!
