Love the story of this @texasmonthly cover photo shot by 2019 Texas Medal of Arts Awardee @markseliger , as explained by our friend @djpentagram... #TXCulturalTrust ・・・ I love this photograph of my wonderful friend @sarahbirdwriter taken for the July 1990 issue of @texasmonthly by @markseliger. The photo is featured on the cover of Sarah’s new book “Recent Studies Indicate.” The book, published by @utexaspress , is a collection of the Austin writer’s nonfiction essays and articles. As Art Director, I had commissioned Mark Seliger, a 2019 Texas Medal of the Arts recipient, to shoot seven humorous Texans for a photo-feature called “Funny Business” in the special “Texas Humor” issue of the magazine. Mark pulled the colorful, striped bed out into the yard and captured mother and child in a moment of pure joy. . . @pentagramdesign #pentagramaustin #books #tx #author #writer #writing #essayist #literature #tm #humor #texasmonthly #magazine #book #utpress #editorialphotography #magazinephotography #art #markseliger #graphicdesign #magazinedesign @texasbookfest #photography @texashumor @txculturaltrust #texasmedalofarts #texaswriters @spdesigners #baby #motherandchild #sarahbird

Three cheers for @Glasstire publisher Rainey Knudson who recently announced that she will be stepping down as publisher in 2019 after more than 18 years in the job. As stated in a Glasstire announcement, “During her 18 years at the helm of Glasstire, Knudson has shaped the media outlet into an important resource and connective tissue for the disparate cities that make up the statewide Texas art scene.” Knudson was the The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth speaker this week and she delivered great remarks and perennially sound advise: “Go see some art.” #Glasstire #art #artmuseum #artgallery #TXart #themodernfw #TXCulturalTrust

Thanks and admiration to the 2019 Texas Medal of Arts co-chairs @leslie.ward.1042 + @lesliedblanton1 and Texas Cultural Trust Chairwoman @lindalamantia + Executive Director @heidismith. Texas Cultural Trust is pleased to feature, as part of our tenth biennial Texas Medal of Arts Awards #TMAA celebration, a commissioned, site-responsive 111-foot art installation by American contemporary artist Susan Scafati titled “🏢🔳🔷♦️🔺🔶🔹.” "I’ve spent half my life living in urban spaces, seeing cities construct and destruct. The installation I created for the Texas Medal of Arts Awards reimagines everyday building blocks as color fields in flux, an homage to the power of art in our lives." - @susanscafati Overlooking Austin’s skyline from the Long Center’s City Terrace, “🏢🔳🔷♦️🔺🔶🔹” reimagines our constructed landscape as a suspended spectrum of everyday urban forms in flux. #TXCulturalTrust #artist #TXArts #ArtsAlive #arts #susanscafati #artistsoninstagram #installationart #art #art_spotlight
