My last day in Sofia started off on a sweet-n-sombre note as I rang the peace bell at one of the most interesting monuments I've ever visited. The Kambanite (meaning bell in Bulgarian) Park on the outskirts of Sofia is a unique place that has bells donated by every country in the world. And to reaffirm one's belief in world peace, all one has to do is ring the bell that corresponds to their country. And so I did just that with the India bell, ever mindful that all the world truly needs now is peace. A nice immersive experience was next at the Museum of Sofia's History with my personal docent, Perla who took me around the compact and very informative museum that used to be a bath house in Ottoman times. Stella next whisked me off on her one-of-a-kind graffiti tour where I saw some stunning murals by Bulgarian street artists like Naimo and Mouse. The city is filled with wonderful street art that's now even specially commissioned by the city like the current project of beautifying electric boxes. Ended the day wandering around the pedestrian only Vitosha Blvd. and checked out the very unique 'kneeling' booze shops where one has to kneel in order to make a purchase from the basement level shops that sprung up early last century as a way to avoid paying a higher tax that was levied to street level shops. Ended the day with some sushi and a cooling Aperol Spritz at a cute al fresco bistro on the boulevard as today was a warm 22C. Bye and thank you Bulgaria for a wonderful time and my overweight 'suitcase of memories'... #bulgariatourism #sofia #bulgaria #raulontheprowl #travelwriterlife #foodwriterlife #raulinbulgaria #easterneurope #travel #exoticdestinations #culture #food #museums #peace #peacemonument #kambanite #graffiti #streetart #naimo #aperolspritz #bell

Sofia, Bulgaria, 2016. This picture was taken near Kambanite, or The Bells. It was built - in only 30 days - following the 1979 UN 'Year of the Child' and dedicated to 'the well-being and happiness of children everywhere'. Bells were donated from all over the world, including countries that no longer exist, such as the USSR and DDR. Bulgaria's own contribution was a bell weighing 1,300kg to represent 1300 years of Bulgaria. In the centre of the complex is a large monument with seven bells to symbolise the seven continents, and the message 'Unity, Creativity, Beauty'. . #sofia #sofiabulgaria #bulgaria #sortofselfie #selfie #selfies #travel #travelphotography #travelwithme #travelselfie #travel_captures #traveleurope #travelselfies #traveleasterneurope #travelholic #travelgram #instatravel #ig_sofia #ig_bulgaria #shadow #shadowselfie #solotravel #solofemaletravel #budgettravel #wanderlust #europe #europetravel #easterneurope #kambanite #kambanitemonument

Only had one real day in Sofia, which is nowhere near enough as this city is vast. We tried to pack in as much lovely concrete as possible - the bells in Kambanite park (The British bell was rubbish, the Polish one was 💯), the Museum of Soviet Art and hit the Monument to the Soviet Army just as the sun was setting. #Sofia #Bulgaria #Brutalism #Concrete #SovietArt #Kambanite

The Bells Monument (or, in Bulgarian, “Камбаните”/”Kambanite”) is situated in a park outside of Sofia’s city center, at the base of the Vitosha mountain. 🇧🇬 An inscription at the monument’s base reads, “Children of the future accept the eternal, fiery call of immortality - Unity, Creativity, Beauty.” 🇧🇬 If you want to see more check out the video on YouTube 👉 https://youtu.be/XehDmc7u5q0 #bulgaria #sofia #kambanite #bells #placestovisit #travel #seetheworld #wanderlust #globetrotter #mikegoughtv #mrmichaelgee @mikegoughtv #youtuber #youtubevlogger r

The Bells (Kambanite): Built during communism in 1979, countries around the world sent a bell as a symbol of peace and a celebration of children. A bit neglected now but still interesting bit of Bulgarian history. They say it is the largest collection of bells in the world, over 100. Just outside the Ring Road in #Sofia. #UNESCO #Bulgaria #TheBells #Kambanite

. . . 🔔🎵🔔 . . . #bulgaria #sofia #kambanite #park #bells #100 #world #children #childhood #monument #architecture #architecturelovers #silence #amazing #campane #mondo #travel #discovered #sound #shoot #travelgram #viaggiare #scoperta #passiontravel #passionpassport #wanderlust #lifeintravel #travelinspired #travelgirl #walkinginthecity

· Day 4 This trip has come to an end, last day in София. This morning I had the biggest breakfast of all my life, even the waiter was impressed: 6 french toast and 8 pancakes (and a cappuccino). At the Palace of Justice we met with Anne, a guide from @freesofiatour and we had a blast following her in the special Cultural Tour of the city. We ate typical food, talked about traditions and danced all together after drinking a good glass of Rakia. @stells_rb and I loved that and it totally worth our time and money! Lunch in a nice restaurant that we found out had the oldest elevator in town (was it true? Idk). From city center we managed to call a taxi at go to Boyana Church, a small medieval church included on Unesco's World Heritage list. Only way to visit it is in groups of 8 people for a max of 10 minutes, and to enter asap we joined a French group, oui je parle français aussi. Asking for directions and trying to read cyrillic we moved to East for 8km visiting Kambanite park, house of a big abandoned communist monument composted by hundreds of bells donated by worldwide Countries (Italy too). Our late afternoon has been devoted to souvenir shopping and now, 9:30pm we are in airport, in the middle of a storm, waiting to come back home.
