We blame Cheryl Cole for starting our obsession with crowns & veneers, her smile makeover was so good thanks to a great aesthetic dentist 🦷🦷. Firstly what’s the difference between both : Well crowns cup over and encase their entire tooth (meaning all of that portion that lies above the gum line). It becomes the tooth's new outer surface. They are generally used for damaged or eroded teeth.
In contrast, veneers are often used just for aesthetic purposes and are bonded onto the front side of teeth. They literally are a veneering (thin layer of material covering over a substrate). BUT both options can be an expensive and timely investment. Most require a good few, lengthy, and not exactly painless sessions in the dental chair. The moulds have to be cast, then sent to a lab as they are made to bespokly fit each mouth. The fitting process thereafter require the dentist to buff and file down the tooth underneath, sometimes the filing is minimal - oftentimes extreme and teeth are filed down to little stumps .. (which is really scary looking!) then they veneers/crowns are attached with a long term adhesive. Costs vary wildly between clinics but as a ballpark figure veneers cost between €700-€1100 per tooth. While crowns average around €400-€900. HOWEVER there are so many types of veneers out there (Zeneers, Lumieeries, DeVinci, MAC, Empress, Emax) it’s hard to know which is best for you and more importantly, who is the best dentist to do the procedure? The dentist is key to a good result and needs to have a great aesthetic eye as well as lots of experience. We have six amazing Irish dentists and orthodontists on the Main Stage at Future Beauty who will be going into this in much more detail with no agenda other than to educate women on ALL the options, not just the brand they have in clinic.
