It’s been a minute, Mount St. Helens.
I watched you spew steam from my bedroom window growing up. I spent the first year with my license ignoring my parents’ rules and driving each and every logging road I could find around you. You even inspired my career with the Forest Service.
Yet, I’ve been ignoring you.
Two years ago, I was proposed to on your summit; but, that engagement crumbled quickly. What was once my favorite place turned into an ambivalent one.
One year ago, I couldn’t get more than two miles on the climber’s route before getting sick with anxiety and leaving you behind.
Yesterday, I fought that feeling and was able to get right back here. I’ve certainly missed you.
