When @thedewberrycharleston opened in 2016, its mid-century modern perfection made the former 1964 office building-turned-hotel an instant classic. Now the new addition of a tropical rooftop lounge on the hotel’s eighth floor has upped the game. The Citrus Club’s palette, a mix of fruity pinks and cherrywood, was inspired by the travels of owner/developer John Dewberry along the Côte d’Azur of France and the Amalfi Coast of Italy. The bar came to life thanks to a collaboration with @workstead , a Brooklyn- and Charleston-based studio—which helped devise custom blends of terrazzo for the floors and bar and freshen up vintage chairs with cool white vinyl. It’s a serious achievement in retro chic, but Dewberry took pains to ensure a wink here and there, too, with playful touches like a custom light piece featuring a hand-drawn slice of citrus fruit.
